Choppix.com was founded in April 2008 (or something like that). We are yet another photoshop contest site with forums and other stuff. We have three admins on the site at the moment: Keb, babaloo, and me. Oh, and Dustin Hoffman is also another admin. He exists because we thought we needed a generic account to setup the site. Turns out that's not the case, but we decided to keep Dustin alive as he works for free.
I'll try to highlight the various tabs that make up the site.
HomeThis is the main page of our site where contest results are on the top and shows the last five ended contest in tabbed view. Clicking the text link on a top three image will display the full size image in magical format. Under that on the left is a high-level description/links to other parts of the site. On the right are the active contests as well as the Featured Image area. At the bottom are five random images which can be clicked an they fly out at you.
ContestsThis area shows the active contests as well as links to the member photo album, an unranked album for fun chops, and a link to the ended contests. Admins have some extra junk on here that allow us to make new contests and see upcoming ones (to make sure we set the dates/images/text right).
Each contest will have several views. Slideshow is as it sounds like. Wowza is the flyout thing. Neato is a gallery type of thing that allows you to go through the gallery of images in a "neat" way. Active contests have three time values. Start Submitting/Start Voting, End Submitting, End Voting. During the first two time periods, you can view the images, vote on them, and edit your own (except for after submission time is up). After a contest ends, all of the contest views appear, you can view voting records and you can now see who made each image. Admins never see the author name until after a contest ends. Each individual image can also be viewed as a slider puzzle (if you're bored).
CalendarThis area is relatively self-explanatory. It shows contests (based on Start Date) and displays the amount of images in each contest as well as a link to contest view. It also shows some holidays/special days and your birthday (should you choose to define that).
ForumThis is the place you are reading right now. This is actually the foundational software that the rest of the site is based on. And it's as it sounds: a forum. There's a few categories that everyone can see, a couple that registered members can see, and a couple of others where the admins talk about how much we love you and stuff.
ChatThis is another one that is rather self-explanatory. It's an AJAX-based thing that logs you in if you're logged into the site. A number will appear beside it if anyone is in there. 2 people would render as Chat [2]. Fun stuff.
HelpThis area describes how the Choppix stuff kind of works as well as how the forums work. If you're bored or truly interested, you can read through it. There's some good stuff in there if I remember correctly.
JukeboxI haven't updated it in awhile, but it's essentially a collection of a few artists that I really like. Jam on it.
SearchThis is used to search the forums for stuff. If you want to
search images in the Contests area, there's a link at the top of most pages in the Contests tab for that purpose.
AdminWell, this is the place that only admins see and it allows us to Administrate stuff. It's a rather interesting place that I don't visit too often (other than to clear out something called error logs).
User CPThis is short for User Control Panel. It's an add-on that makes the "Profile" part of your account more visually pleasing. It only appears to logged in members.
MessagesThis is essentially a way to communicate to specific members on the site. It's an onsite mailbox. If you have 3 message, the tab shows up as Messages [3]. Whee.
MembersThis is a listing of the registered members of the site.
LogoutShows up if you're logged in to the site.
LoginShows up if you're not logged in and you may want to do so.
RegisterShows up if you're not logged in or registered and you may want to do so.
That's a summary of the site. If you have any questions, pose them in here and I'll try to answer them.
Rock on.
