Did you know FN has had to remove all chops using Norman Rockwell images? It was in the forums today.

Yes. Curtis Publishing Group has a long arm. In fact, I took the live help when they contacted FN about the use of his images. Here's the deal. They don't care if you use Rockwells at all. They just want you to pay for the use of it. You can buy the right to any of his illustrations and use them as you please. Lawyers, like trolls, are bottom feeders.

I am surprised Disney haven't been after FN. Anyone remember the Mickey Mouse and Pluto chop by Indigodingo? They were doing something rude.

There is difference between Disney getting free publicity and Norman Rockwell have his paintings butchered. Granted, some are butchered rather well, but most are pretty sad and don't really do anything for print sales. |

It wasn't about the paintings being butchered at all. It was about Curtis Publishing Co. wanting to make money off of every image of Rockwell's on the web. They had no problem with people photoshopping his images as long as whomever used them paid them for the right to use them. |

Yep, there are lawyers that spend a great dealy of their time looking all over the net for somebody to sue over copyright issues. If there is a buck to be made they will jump on it. There is nothing to stop anyone from chopping a Rockwell and changing it significantly enough to never loose a lawsuit. The problem is, who's got the $$$ to fight it? The lawyers know this and throw their muscle around as though they have ultimate power when it's really just an empty threat that they couldn't act on. But they bet you are stupid enough and intimidated enough just by their presence. So they write their threatening letters and charge the client for the hour. |
